So far studies seem to show it will attack many cancer cells highly effectively in a test tube. The problem is the cancerous cells in a body are part of the body and not in a test tube. Things that work in test tube are often ineffective when digested.
Likewise there was a study on mice which showed promise, but the literature is littered with cases where something worked well in mice and failed in man.
The soursop is a common topical fruit tree, and has a delicious fruit of white pulp with black seeds. However, it seems the substance to be used here is from the leaves.

Yes the leaves are more ptent green not dried and when green the smell is bad like cat urine! Cant tell the taste is tea once leaves are boiled and simmered to tea.

Look folks I am Jamaican my mom brew the tea leaves and juice the fruit all the time, we drank it a lot with no problem. We even pick the fruit of the tree and eat it when is ripe. I got to know about the usefulness of the fruit 2 days ago. Even though, i have eaten the fruit severally. I am a Nigerian from the South-Eastern part of the country. We eat a lot of vegetables and fruits, may be that could be the reason that other tribes believe we are stronger and healthier.
I know for a fact as a kid that graviola is good to decrease blood pressure and arousal. Some third world parents use it to control children who engage in sexual activity at early age. In fact, grown ups males in my surrounding refused to drink its juice because it will make them less potent as a man, but we, young girls, have no fear to drink its juice or ice cream. what we dislike about it is its smell in our glasses after drinking it-it smells like a dog who didn’t take a bath. One can add lemon as antioxidant to it, water, and sugar.
One can add milk to it and makes a perfect juice. My mother makes tea with the leaf a lot to lower her blood pressure to avoid polypharmacy. I have fact this is a good blood pressure reducing product. Could it be good also for cholesterol?

If you have it in your backyard, you can contact local grocery stores like Publix, winn dixie, and others and market the leaf like some people did it for basil life. Could that require the presence of FDA to test your tree?

In Florida you can buy the plant at some flee market or nursery, because it is seasonal you can only get it begining in early spring. There are also nursery on the internet that will ship it to you. You can also get the pill at health food store. I dont believe it can be grown in london because its not tropical. They also have the frozen juice in spnish, carribean and probable asian stores.

Just reading these comments and would like to point your attention to an article which appeared in The Jamaican Daily Gleaner a leading news paper in Jamaica. The article triggered my internet research about sour sop and I came upon this site. I do not have all the answers but I would say there is something about this plant. Read for yourselves and decide. If you live in L.A. you can find soursop juice in Chinese markets. You can also find frozen guanabana pulp (soursop) in the latino markets. If you are in Florida, you might be able to find the actual fruit in the Cuban markets. I found a website through amazon.com of an actual fruit market that specializes in all types of exotic fruits. They can even ship it to you. According to them, soursop is in season June/July. I’m sorry I don’t have the name right now, but it was something like fresh@richard.com. I’m sure that’s not it exactly but maybe a search might produce something. Hope this helps. 🙂

There are grocery stores that sell the pulp or the nectar. The pulp you can find from the manufacturer La Fe, usually found in a frozen pack and the nectar juice from Goya foods. Look it up….
From Trinidad here…It grown in Trinidad as well..soursop makes tasty milky drink…also yes..the leaves make an exceptional herbal tea..it’s a slight sedative… use it when you can;t sleep or stressed..usually 2-3 leaves in pot of boiling water would do…dIDN’T KNOW IT was soo beneficial..i live in New Mexico but order tropical fruits online from Florida…If you so happen to live in Florida buy the seeds and plant it in a pot, if it grows well wait till its about 2 feet and plant it into the ground give it enough space for growth and sunlight…the soursop juice is sold in cans but quite not the same… truly awesome though!

you need to take the wash it first then put it in a cup boil some water pour it on the leaf then cover it and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes can add a little sugar to taste but it is better unsweeten. if the leaves are small use 2 donot full the cup with water just enough to cover the leaf but the young leaf is the best.

I used to eat like a crazy,person when I was young, take the pulp, put it in a blender add some milk and a little bit of honey, and you get a nice tasty drink.
Am a little crazy with herbal medicines. Came accross turmeric and am processing turmeric powder from rhizomes. But to improve the potency of the powder i mix there a few gaviola leaves, oregano and some other herbal leaves. After i dry the combination, I grind them to powder with a corn mill. I use about half a teaspon of the powder added to a big mug of water. As i drink off the mixture, i just add more hot water to add to more drinks a day. I asked my wife to mix the used power of turmeric , gabiola and others in cooking rice but she said that is too much.. ha ha ha

Throughout the Caribbean you can get soursop in anyone’s backyard… I’m currently in American but my grandmother send me soursop leaves and I make tea with them 3 leaves per teacup. It’s good when you can’t sleep as well just 5-10 leaves, 1 cup water 3 teaspoon of sugar and you will be sleep in no time.
I would like to try this fruit/juice/or bark. I really don’t undersatnd just how to use it but I do want to try it.

you can boil 10 leaves in 3 cups of water. easy as that. eat the fruit. My dad had stage 3 prostate cancer when we found out and went through radiation theraphy for 40 days and medication for 6 months when we get to know about soursop ( which is to abundant in our backyard!) and since then no medication has been prescribed by his doctor just because his PSA count has been consistent at 0.01 for 2 years now. We think the soursop has greatly helped.

guyabano locally called in philippines you can find it anywhere and when i was small we used to pick its fruits but what i like most are those silk worms who eat the leaves and turn into large butterflies

Hi Brigid, you could try at the nursery for a tree, but it is a tropical tree and would need very special attention in N Ireland. If all else fails you could try growing one from seed in pure compost and see what happens.

Guys, this plant is widely available in Jamaica. Even Jamaican foodstores in the USA might have it in their stores. If you have a friend from Jamaica they will even send it to you at no cost and yet in its purest form. Jamaicans drink it for breakfast starting as healthy kids most/every morning, hence, low cancer rate. If you feel the AMA was in the wrong by not revealing the truth you should practice what you preach. It is okay to sell the product but it is not okay to mislead your potential buyers. I live in the Bahamas and this tree grows here and can be grown from seeds. There is a tree in my mother’s yard in Nassau, but I don’t think there are any fruits on it now. If you know anyone who lives in the Bahamas that you can contact to get you some seeds it shouldn’t be too difficult to get them to grow in Florida.

A relative who heard about soursop told me and my wife about it before we went on vacation in the Philippines on March 8,2013. In the Philippines, we immediately requested the folks in the province to gather leaves of the Guyabano tree ( soursop in english). We instructed them not to dry the leaves under the sun but to shaded places only inorder not to lose its healing ingredient.I brought a lot of dried leaves on my way back to the US and started drinking the water boiled from the dried leaves.To my amazement, my blood sugar is reduced from 140 to 119, 109 and ultimately to below 99, which is normal.I had my blood test read by my physician who is an internist and told me that my creatinine serum dropped from 1.34 to 1.24 which is a normal value. I stopped taking Actos which gave me limb pain after taking it for 10 years.Als0, i reduced my Lantus insulin from 16 units to 6 units just this morning, because my blood sugar dropped to 98. I just would like to share this experience to anybody who are suffering from diabetes and to the side effect of diabetic pill such as Actos. I wish i can tell Takeda phamaceuticals to stop selling Actos because it did do harm than good in terms of limb pain. Right now i dont have those knee pain anymore, right shoulder pain, stiffnes on my both hands, etc.

I’ve known this fruit by the name soursop and guanabana ( in Spanish) but have not heard the name graviola. My mother used to recommend steeping the leaves in boiling water and drinking the water as a sleep aid. The article seems to have attributed anti-cancer properties to extracts from the leaves and stems — possibly — but not necessarily to the fruit itself which, by the way, makes a wonderful beverage. Time will tell what other benefits the fruit/plant offers.
